Landing on Hite Airstrip
This
advanced aviation safety seminar builds on the fundamentals learned
in the basic course (which is a prerequisite for the advanced
courses). This advance course will concentrate on confined area
approaches, the emergency maneuvers, “canyon turn”, combined with
expanding the skill of “you found the airstrip now what!” Also,
aerial surveillance, determining safe approaches and departures -
and determining where the abort point for that airstrip is, your
aircraft, and the conditions of the environment! All of this
within a new environment that will take your breath away.
The Canyonlands is an aviators dream. To view the splendor from
above, navigating the valleys and canyons across deep gorges, and
gazing at odd and mystic rock formations. Aviating across this vast
and remote wilderness you will catch glimpses of cliff dwellings and
old abandoned uranium mines. The many backcountry airstrips
serve as trailheads to self guided hikes to view ancient Petroglyphs.
You'll wonder in amazement...Of how many years ago? What do they
mean?
And what is next on this trip? The next would be enjoying lunch at
Goulding's Resturant after landing. As you walk to the facility you
can visit the Navaho women that weave rugs in their hogans. In
addition we'll be visiting the Goulding's Museum and Trading Post
who will provide us with insights into this area's rich and colorful
history. Afternoon river trips down the San Juan are also available
with private reservation! Please view our links page for area
links.
