An actual survival situation makes an extremely undesirable classroom... Be well prepared for unplanned stops! Any flight into the backcountry (or any cross-country flight) could turn into an unexpected test of your survival skills. This section is NOT intended as a comprehensive treatment of the subject, but will address a minimum of skills and items to prepare in advance of your trip into the backcountry.

The best Aviation survival kits & supplies

The MicroFix PLB is currently the best one on the market.  It is the lightest and smallest PLB available, easy to use, waterproof, and contains a built in GPS.  I bought mine from Prepared Pilot (801) 455-5271 where they have agreed to give a $30 discount to any of our students.  They also include a free emergency strobe light with the purchase.  To get the discount and strobe light, enter the coupon code "mcfly" during the check out process or just mention it if ordering by phone.

Equipped.com This excellent online resource has a wealth of information about survival planning, survival gear, survival stories - and items specific to aviation survival.
