Advanced Course Schedule 2007 - 2008

McCall Mountain/Canyon Flying Seminars, LLC  

        

Day 1: Wed.

 

09:00 – 13:30

Registration and Check-in (Recapture Lodge) Aircraft Inspections (conducted with your A/C)

 

14:00 - 15:00

Aircraft Performance, (ground roll, climb to 50ft), Turn Radius and Airspeed, Flying a Stabilized Approach.  Preparation for Thursday's flight lesson  (Chapter 3, 4, 7)

 

15:00 - 15:10

Break

 

15:10 - 16:30

Emergency Maneuvers / Canyon Turns (Chapter 5)

 

16:30 - 17:00

Backcountry Aircraft Preflight Items  (Chapter 2)

 

18:00 - 19:30

Get Acquainted Dinner at Twin Rocks Café / meet your instructors & flight assignments

 

20:00 – 21.30

Speaker Gene Foushee:  local pilot and airstrip connoisseur will present a slide show that will give us knowledge and history of the geological formations in this area.

Day 2: Thurs.,            Bring your aircraft POH or Owners Manual to class Thursday

 

06:00 - 12:00

Morning’s flight (Depart Bluff airstrip/fly planned route)

 

Lunch

Location of lunch will be announced each day

 

12:00 -13:30

Aircraft Performance Cards/Navigation in Mountain & Canyon Areas (Chapter 4, 8, 10)

 

13:30 - 15:00

Depart from Lunch, fly planned route/return to Bluff airstrip with a re-fueling stop (TBD)

 

15:30 - 16:30

Density Altitude and Aircraft Performance (Chapter 6)

 

17:00 -  ?

Use self-guided tour maps to view nearby Petroglyphs and ruins.

 

19:00 Dinner

Special Navajo Taco dinner (Flight assignments for Friday)

*Each evening the Hotel will be providing a speaker with a slide show that will give us history on this area

Day 3: Fri.,

 

06:00 - 12:00

Mornings flight (Depart Bluff airstrip/fly planned route)

 

Lunch

Location of lunch will be announced each day

 

12:00 - 13:30

Landing Areas (Chapter 9)

 

13:30 - 15:00

Break  

 

15:00 - 17:00

Optional: River raft trip on the San Juan River.  Please plan ahead to make reservations with Bluff River Outfitter.

Cook-out for dinner (Flight assignments for Saturday)

Day 4: Sat., 

 

06:00 - 12:00

flight (Depart Bluff airstrip/fly planned route)

This is a day to prep to depart for home or fly a return trip to an airstrip before going home.
