Your instruction includes between 9.0 and 12.0 hours of dual Mountain/Canyon flight time, approximately 14 hours of classroom instruction, Mountain and Canyon Flight Training Manual and all supplemental course materials. If you are a first time client we will structure the course curriculum to match the Basic Course outline. If you are a returning client, we will structure the course as an advanced course to meet your goals and objectives.
This aviation safety seminar based out of Bluff, Utah (in the Four Corners Region), where you will experience breathtaking sunsets during our evening cookouts in this red rock country. This course curriculum will concentrate on Confined Area Approaches, Emergency Canyon Turns, combined with expanding the skill of “You Found the Airstrip Now What!” Also, Aerial Surveillance, determining Safe Approaches and Departures - and determining where the Abort Point is for that airstrip, your aircraft, and the conditions of the environment! This is a comprehensive 4-Day mountain/canyon flying course. The curriculum covers: Preparing the pilot and airplane for Mountain/Canyon Flight; Mountain and Canyon Meteorology; Navigation in Mountain and Canyon Areas; Emergency Canyon Turns, Density Altitude and Aircraft Performance; Landing Area Selection; Flying Mountains and Canyons; Emergencies and Forced Landings; and Backcountry Etiquette. The curriculum specializes in Stick and Rudder skills, Steep Stabilized Approaches, Confined Area Operations, integrating Overhead-Observation with Abort-Point aviation concepts. This advanced level of airmanship is delivered through ground and flight training with the pilot in their aircraft (we do provide rental aircraft upon request).

This course curriculum focuses on Advanced Airmanship Skills using basic “Stick-and-Rudder” theory.
Course contents include, “ground and flight training that enables pilots to prevent and recover from aircraft stalls and upsets” and “expanded crosswind training, including training for wind gusts”. We get back to the basics of navigation by conducting drainage navigation using dead reckoning, pilotage and your trusty compass. This Stick and Rudder approach has been our specialty since the foundation of Mountain / Canyon Flying Seminars in 1996.
We build Advanced Airmanship Skills courses to meet your training needs in your aircraft or rent one of our aircraft for your custom course curriculum.
